Core Aeration

Aeration is the naturally occuring process of air exchange between the soil and the surrounding atmosphere. It is the mechanical process of removing small plugs of thatch and soil. This process improves the depth and extent of turf grass rooting, which will then improve the overall health and appearance of your lawn.
When / How Often Should My Lawn Be Aerated?
Most lawns will benefit from aeration if the process is done annually. However, heavily used lawns or ones growing on sub soils might need a few aerations a year. The best time to aerate would be in the spring and the fall to enhance root growth and improve spring green – up.
What Can I Expect?
After aeration your lawn will have small hole where the machine pulled out the thatch and soil. But don’t worry, in a couple of weeks the plugs break apart and disintegrate into the lawn. In about a week the aeration holes will be filled with new actively growing roots ( which is a very good sign that the grass is recieving ideal oxygen, moisture and nutrients from the soil).
What Are The Bennifits Of Aeration?
There are many bennifits to aeration. It will not only make your lawn healthier, but it will also reduce the need for some maintenance requirements.
Some of the benifits include:
- Enhanced air exchange between the soil and the air
- Enhanced soil and water uptake
- Improved fertilization
- Reduced run off and puddling
- Stronger root system
- A reduction in soil compaction
- Enhanced tolerance for heat and drought
- Improvement in resilliency and cushioning
| In compacted soil, turf grass becomes very thin and doesn’t grow very fast, if at all. |
When you core aerate, small plugs of soil are removed and deposited on the surface of your lawn. |
This process increases the depth and amount of turf grass rooting. |
